We flew all the way down the Andes from Santiago to
Punta Arenas, where we were greeted by our guide Juan, a
Chilean version of Austin Powers, and the typically
patagonian stormy and windy weather. You have to be an
expert driver in these climes, because the wind is so
strong it can push a car off the road! So there we
were, almost at the end of the world. We saw the
Magellan strait, and oddly, flamingos. I thought they
lived in Africa and in zoos, not in Patagonia. We then
had a 3 hour drive to the little frontier town of
Puerto Natales, which is the closest thing to
civilisation outside the Torres del Paine national
park. It only has about 12'000 inhabitants, but we
still noticed a street full of strip joints.
