While in KL, one of the only historical and cultural things to do is to visit the most sacred Hindu shrine in the country. This is in the Batu limestone caves, north of the city. We were driven there by our friend Sok Ching (an ex George's colleague) and walked up over 250 steps to the mouth of the cave. Macaques were playing all the way up too, but I like to keep a safe distance because I'm not sure I had my rabies jab. They like to suck on packets of ketchup by the way.
Batu caves is where hindus stick spikes through their tongue and the more fervent followers walk on hot coals and dangle weights of the skin on their backs, as I've seen from pictures I can barely look at. There was none of that during our visit, thankfully. Just a few monkeys and a souvenir shop.
I also went on a short organised exploration tour of one of the caves and wore a helmet and boots like the pros, only I was not as cool as a pro. It's pitch black obviously and wherever the light shines, insects scurry away. It was dead quiet except for the bats and it stank of guano. If you've seen 'The Descent', it makes it even more frightening; I kept looking behind me to be sure I'm not being followed by a creature.
